i worked at a starbucks inside of a target for a total of 3 days before they “let me go”. i learned how to make frappucinos, smoothies, and tea, and it was actually interesting to learn and my trainer kept telling me i was doing well even though i struggled with remembering which nasty syrups went with each drink and what order you put the ingredients in.
so it was kind of a surprise when my trainer sat me down on the 4th day i went to work and told me she didn’t feel comfortable leaving me alone at work and she thought it was too much for me, so she made me a cashier at target. she then had the guts to ask me if i liked it after i had scanned food/targety items for 8.5 hours, and when i shrugged and said it’s alright, she smiled and gushed “i just want everyone to be happy!”
i guess i’m better off because i felt sick seeing all the waste produced by starbucks. they didn’t recycle anything, and at the end of the day loads of milk and coffee and tea would go down the drain and pastries would get thrown out.
also the health regulations were ridiculous; i was expected to wash my hands about 75-100 times each shift…even though we never directly touched any food.
cashiering sucks and it’s hard to care about doing my job well. i feel like charles bukowski.
